Hallway Tunes

I have noticed through out my time in my high school that between classes, if you listen, there is always someone singing a song. It may have been the song that was on the radio when they were driving to school that morning, or a song that they woke up with in their head. Whatever it was, they have no shame letting every one else know what it is.

Right away in the morning, there might be one person singing a song. Or, if it was the song on the radio that morning, there may be a whole tribe with the same song stuck in their head. Maybe there are numerous songs being sung between advisement and first period. Then, slowly throughout the day, you will notice that more and more people start singing the same song. If there were numerous songs that morning, whoever sang the loudest has usually won out by lunch. By the end of the day almost every one has the same song stuck in their head. If you’re the first person that was singing a song that morning, it is almost considered a personal victory. You have successfully gotten one song stuck in every one’s head.

It is almost like, if you want to know what song is the most popular that week among the high school crowd, just come and hang out in our hallways. By the end of the day, not only will you know the song by heart, you will also never want to hear that song again.

Honestly, it is one of my favorite parts of walking from class to class. It puts me in a good mood, because the singling is never really that good. But it will always make you laugh.

If my home was on fire, and all people and animals were safe, I would grab the picture I have framed by my bed of my siblings and I. My teddy bear, because I can’t live without it. The ring my parents gave me for my sixteenth birthday, and a family photo album.

After grabbin those things, the things I would have taken but couldn’t are my favorite books, the boquet I caught at my brother’s wedding, and my seasons of One Tree Hill.  Also, I would have had to leave behind the necklace I got from my grandpa, and my pandora charm bracelet that basically documents my life over the past three or four years.

Most of the things I had to leave behind are replaceable, but it would still be hard to let them go.

Embrace the Ick

There is nothing more repulsing than the thought of needles piercing my skin. When I have to get a shot, or get blood drawn, I squirm. I dread going to the doctor’s office. Even if someone touches the place in the crook of my arm where I get my blood drawn, I draw back from it. Talking about it makes me cringe, and thinking about it makes me want to throw up.

The irony of it is…I want to be a nurse.

My Dad the Family Corn and Cattle Farmer.

My home has always been on a farm. My dad has been a cattle farmer and a crop farmer since before I was born. When he was growing up, he lived on the with his eight brothers and sisters and his dad and uncle farmed the land.

When I was one year old my grandpa retired and my great uncle passed away, my parents, my two siblings and I moved back to the farm and my dad and my uncle took over.

Growing up it was really nice having my dad working right outside my window, and my mom having the opportunity to be a stay at home mom. I always got to sit down and eat meals with both of my parents, and we got to be a family more than most families do.

“And All Would Be Right With the World”

If the unicorns would have made it on to Noah’s ark in time, we would still be appreciating their beauty and grace today. Everything would be happier. There would be more rainbows in the world and everything would be brighter and happier. Everyone would be more cheerful. The unicorns would cause everyone to be so happy that no one would be at war and no one would commit crimes. There would be less car accidents because people could ride their flying unicorns from place to place. And everybody knows that the only way unicorns can fly is if their rider is happy. My question is to you, who wouldn’t be happy if they were riding a flying unicorn?

In summary, if the unicorns would have made it to Noah’s ark on time, people would be happier, the world would be brighter, and all would be right with the world.

Time After Time: Family Traditions

My favorite family tradition started before I was born. Every year we decorate our Christmas tree the same way. We even have a running list of jobs that each person has to do. We have an artificial tree, and we all take a day and put up the tree. We set it up and then my dad, my sister, and I walk around in a circle putting the lights on. After the lights are on, whoever’s turn it is on the gets to plug in the lights to make sure they work. After that, each of us kids get to put on our own ornaments. Finally, whooever’s turn it is to put on the star will put on the star, and then the final kid will plug it all in so it’s lit up. Then my mom and the three of us kids will go in the kitchen and make home made pizza for supper. When the pizza is done and my dad is done feeding the cattle, we lay a blanket down in our living room and eat our pizza while we watch a Christmas movie.

While this is my favorite traditon, it hasn’t been the same it quite some time. My brother and my sister have both moved to Colorado. My sister comes home for Christmas every year, but my brother only comes every other year. Him and his wife alternate between her family in Kentucky and coming here.

Even though we aren’t together putting up the tree like we used to be when we were younger, it will always be my favorite tradition.

Getting My Day Started Off on the Right Foot

Every morning I follow the exact same routine. The first thing I do is wash my face and brush my teeth. I can not start my day if I don’t wash my face and brush my teeth. Then I turn on my radio and do my hair and put on my make up. I get dressed and then head down to my kitchen. Also, the one thing that I have to do in the morning is take my time eating breakfast. I like to sit at my kitchen table and eat my breakfast, drink my coffee, talk to my mom, and watch The Today Show. If I don’t have that time in the morning to just sit and be, my whole day feels like it is in a rush, because I had to start in a rush. On the mornings that I wake up late and don’t have the time to sit and relax while I eat breakfast, I am crabby and I am more tired throughout the day than I usually am.

A Moment In Time

The last photo I took was of my sister and I before she left to go back to Color20141229_094141ado. She had been home for a week over Christmas and she was leaving to go to Kansas City to meet up with a friend and then they drove back together.

My sister is 20, so almost two years older than me. She works as a payroll accountant in Denver, Colorado. She lives with my brother and his wife who also also work in CO.

It’s never easy saying goodbye to her before she leaves. We grew up together. We have always shared everything. Our room, bathroom, clothes, makeup, etc. We drove 15 minutes to school together every day and we hung out with the same group of friends. She’s been my best friend and my role model for as long as I can remember, so this picture is definitely one with meaning.

Refreshed, energized, and rejuvinated

The world is full of a lot of stress and it is easy to get run down and exhausted, so when I find things in life that refresh me, I try to do them as often as I can. Whenever I feel stressed I like to do one of three things. I take a short 20 minute nap to recharge my batteries, take a hot shower, or bake a yummy treat (and then eat it of course).

Naps are honestly one of the best things in life. If I’m crabby, or I’m having a bad day, I take a nap, and when I wake up it’s like a new start to my day.

If I just need a break or have something that I need to think over, or an important decision I need to make (like what college to go to) I like to take a long hot shower. There is just something about standing under hot water that seems to help me think clearer.

Whenever I’m sad or I’m just sick of my day, I’ll bake some type of treat. I love baking cookies, pies, brownies, cakes, and really anything that is generally bad for me. It just makes me feel better and always seems to put me back in a good mood.
