The Show Must Go On

If I had to be involved in a movie, I would probably be the director. Probably because I like to be in control of situations. If I’m not in charge of something or in control of something I am involved in, I have a hard time. I keep wondering if it is being done right and stressing out that something won’t get done. For example, when I do a group project in school,  I usually either do it all myself or constantly check up on my group members because I stress out about if stuff is getting done or not.

I would like to direct any kind of movie that isn’t action or sci fi. I don’t think I would be good at those because I don’t have that much of an imagination for sci fi, and I am not good with action sequences.

But No Cigar

After my sister’s freshman year in college she got an internship in Colorado working for the same company my sister in law worked with that the time. After she was done with school my mom and I drove with her out there and moved all of her stuff so she could live there for the summer. After we moved her out there my mom and I flew back, so she would have a car.

She was set to come back home in mid august so she had time to collect herself before heading back to college. My mom or dad couldn’t fly out to bring her back because the had other committments, so my boyfriend and I bought really cheap tickets to fly there and then we would drive with her back home.

After booking the tickets, my sister said that she wasn’t sure if she was going to be done by then or if she had to stay another week. So, we had to decide if we wanted to keep the tickets and just spend a week out in Colorado and just move her back when she was done, or if we should cancel the tickets and wait until she knew for sure.

We ended up cancelling the tickets and my sister actually ended up staying in Colorado and never moved back home. If I could do it over again, I would have kept the tickets and we could have flown out there and just spent time with my siblings and exploring Colorado, and then we could have just flown back, instead of not being able to go there at all.

Weaved Together

Molly was late for school and her sister was yelling at her to hurry up. She just couldn’t find her left shoe. Sick of hearing her sister yelling, she ditched her right shoe and settled for a different pair. A pair that she could find both the right and left shoe to. Not bothering to put them on she ran out of her room and flew down the stairs. In an effort to be quicker she started shutting the door to their garage before she was outside. CRACK! Her toe caught the end of the door. She let out a high pitched yelp and cursed under her breath. Her toe throbbed and she felt tears sting her eyes. Not a good start to her Monday.

Steven woke up to his three year old, Simon jumping on his bed. He rolled over and sighed, missing the days that his son couldn’t get out of bed on his own. He pushed off his covers and picked up his little boy, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. When they got to the kitched he Simon down and started searching for breakfast. Losing himself in routine and thoughts of his day ahead. He snapped back to reality only when Simon let out a cry. Steven turned on his heel and saw his son sittin on the floor, holding his baby toe. Tears streaming down his face. To a three year old, there is nothing worse that stubbing your toe.

Joey loved to run. As long as he could remember he has been running. His mom told him that he ran before he walked. Every day before school he would run, at least 3 miles, before showering and getting ready for the day. This morning was a particularly beautiful morning, and he decided to extend his run to 5 miles. He could be late to school, he thought, his first period was just study hall anyway. He turned and ran up his driveway, feeling better than he had in a long time. To Joey, there was nothing like a nice long run. He ran into his house and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. He sat on the barstool and savored the cold liquid as it ran down his throat. As he did this, his little sister Leah ran down the stairs rubbing her eyes. She ran right to Joey and gave him a big hug. Joey laughed and looked at her, he could tell she had been crying.                                                           “What’s wrong Leah?”                                                                                                                                                                           “I stubbed my toe on the bathtub this morning.” She stuck her bottom lip out, pouting, and then buried her head in Joey’s shoulder. Joey wrapper her in a hug and laughed to himself.

Fly on the Wall

If I could be a fly on the wall at any point in history, I think I would be a fly on the way in the room where the people who work for Hostess come up with names for their products. Honestly, I need to know how they came to the conclusion that Twinkie, Ho Ho, and Ding Dong, where three prime choice names to use for their products. If you think about it, they are really terrible names that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual product or what it tastes like or even looks like.

I have always wondered why they were named like that and who on earth was in charge of that committee. Just ponder it for a second. Looking at a chocolate covered cream filled cake, why on earth did that name Ho Ho come to anyones mind, and why is a vanilla cream filled sponge cake called a twinkie?

These are my questions, and if I could be a fly on a wall anywhere at any time, that’s what I would choose.

Daily Prompt

If I could have any writer living or dead write about my life, I would have J.K. Rowling. I love her books, and she is an increible writer. I can honeslty say that the Harry Potter series is the only series I have ever read that wasn’t completely predictable at the end. And that each book was better than the last. I would love to have her write my biography and see how interesting and suspenseful she could make my life.

We Built This City

I don’t really have a city or town. I live in the country. The nearest town is Alton. Technically I have an Alton address but the only time I am in Alton is to go to church or to visit my grandparents.

The next town over is Orange City, which I go to a lot. I work at the daycare there, and I go there to get groceries, go out to eat, go to a movie, get my hair cut, all of that jazz.

Then, I go to school in a town called Remsen, which is 20 minutes from my house. I spend a lot of time there. I am in school, I am in extracurriculars and most of my friends live there, so on the weekends that is usually where I am.

Aside from these three towns, before I went to school in Remsen, I went to school in a town called Granville, which is 15 minutes from my house. So that town is familiar to me too, and I have friends there too, so I spend time there every now and then too.

Also, my boyfriend goes to college in Sioux Center, which is a half hour away, so I spend a lot of time there too.

As you can see, I really don’t have a home town. It’s more like home TOWNS. I love things about each one of these small towns. My favorite being Orange City. It is a clean very nice looking town. The people are nice and there is almost everything you need right there. I has a lot of parks and a lot of walking trails and a beautiful golf course.

Orange City is a very Dutch town. All of the stores and businesses have Dutch looking buildings and there are windmills around town. I like this because I am Dutch.

If I had to choose one town to live in out of these 5 towns, if I had to pick one to live in for the rest of my life, it would be Orange City. However, I don’t really plan on it. Don’t get me wrong, I will always have my small town country roots, and I love dirt roads and tractors as much as the next farm girl, but I’m ready to branch out and go somewhere where I don’t know everyone by name and everyone doesn’t already know me and who my family is.

Daily Prompt

Whenever I’m told to tell a joke or write a joke, I always draw a blank. I have no jokes to tell when I am told to do so. I am more of the “think on your feet” type of person.

For example, I have said quite a few puns in my life time, like everyone does, but, when I was told to write a pun on an English test for extra credit, and I just sat there and stared at the paper. It took me for ever to come up with a pun. Every single pun I have ever told or heard suddenly left my memory.

I am one of those people that when told to take a test, I forget what I have learned. Or when someone asks me to tell them about myself, I suddenly forget everything that has ever happened in my life. For this reason, I am a terrible standardized test taker, and I struggle to write scholarship essays about myself.

I can think on my feet, spontaneity is good for me. I can talk and talk for hours about nothing, and I can spew random facts, and come up with quick come backs.
However, as soon as I’m told to do something my brain basically shuts down. No matter how hard I think, I can not come up with a single thing I am told to come up with.

My hope while writing this blog was to suddenly come up with an anti joke of sorts, but, no luck.

Daily Prompt

32 Flavors

I love ice cream.
I will eat almost every flavor.

If I have a malt, my favorites are hot fugde, or chocolate marshmallow.
Normal ice cream, my favorite is chocolate caramel cashew.

But, honestly, i’ll eat almost any flavor (aside from fruity flavors) because I love ice cream.

I put toppings on my ice cream like whipped cream, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, peanuts, M&Ms, chocolate chips, reese’s pieces, crushed oreos.

I will also have ice cream with any kind of brownie, or cake, or cookie. Just to add some more calories right on top of the ice cream.

I am honestly obsessed with ice cream. It is a good thing I live 15 minutes away from the Ice Cream Capital of the world!

I don’t understand the people who get like vanilla ice cream and top it with strawberries and other fruits. Come on people! You don’t need to be healthy, you have to indulge yourself in the goodness and wonderfulness of ice cream and all of it’s wonders!

This post has really got me craving ice cream..

A House Divided

Elton John has led a boycott of Dolce and Gabbana after they made a statement saying they are against in vitro vertilization. Saying that they have traditional views and that some things in life should not be altered.

The hashtag #boycottdolceandgabbana is trending on twitter, and support for the boycott in growing. Sir Elton John has two children both by a surrogate mother. He and his husband are offended by the claim because they take it as a personal jab against their two children. They, along with many other people, think that they have every right to have children with their own genes, even though they can not make them naturally or without science.

The other side, of Dolce and Gabbana, they believe that all children should be born naturally, and that there are so many un wanted children already, why not just adopt them if you can’t have children of your own.

Personally, I struggle with this topic. I am a Catholic, and have always thought that this topic was black and white for me. I have always viewed that children should be made naturally, without science, and that is that. If you can’t have children, adopt.
However, recently, I have started babysitting for a family who have three children. She was told that she couldn’t have children, and they had their first two kids with in vitro. Then, she did get pregnant naturally and had their third child. I love all three of the kids, and have a hard to believing that the first two children shouldn’t be around because they weren’t made naturally.
This topic has become less black and white to me over the years, and has reached more of a gray area. I can understand both sides, and honestly would have a hard tie choosing one.

Daily Prompt

A Different Location

If I got to spend a year living in a different location, I would have a hard time choosing where to go. If i should stay in the country or go outside of it would be the biggest decision.

If I spent one year living in a different place in the country I would choose North Carolina. It is so beautiful there and it has mountains and the ocean. I remember going there for a vacation a few summers ago and falling in love with it. We stayed in this little city called Wilmington, and I loved it. Five minutes from the beach, developed around a river, and ten minutes from the edge of the Appalachian Mountains. It is honestly a place where I could see myself living someday.

If I spent one year outside of the country, I would probably choose London. I would love to experience their different types of culture and ways of life, but I would still be able to speak English. I would love to live and even work and explore London as well as the rest of England.

The bottom line is that I want to travel. Everywhere. I want to see the world and experience all there is to experience.

The world is huge and is filled with different kinds of people and different cultures and walks of life. As well as different sights to see and things to experience.
